Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Courses

Principles of Intruder Alarm System (Advanced)

COURSES DETAILS

Course Information

This course provides a good balance of classroom theory and hands-on practical training which will allow the learner to develop the fundamental knowledge and technical know-how vital to the installation, commissioning and maintenance of modern intruder alarm systems, whilst adhering to the requirements of present-day standards and regulations. This unit provides learners with an understanding of the principles of intruder alarm systems: purpose, design, control, testing and management.

The learner will be given an opportunity to go in-depth into the fundamentals of intruder alarm systems and the entire process of how such systems are designed and built. The learner will explore how intruder alarm systems are installed and maintained, as well as experience the use of various detection devices, intruder alarm control and indicating equipment and alarm signalling systems.

Additionally, learners will cultivate an understanding of intruder alarm systems circuitry, power supply and wiring.

Finally, learners will develop understanding of the commissioning and maintenance of intruder alarm systems.

Key Content

  • Establish intruder detection and response procedures
  • Determine and analyse possible causes of intrusion
  • Compile and present improvement plans
  • Monitor project implementation of alarm monitoring systems and ensure that site acceptance tests meet operational requirements
  • Recommend adjustments in deployments of existing alarm monitoring equipment
  • Review and assess efficiency of alarm monitoring equipment
  • Research and recommend new and suitable alarm monitoring equipment for deployment

Learning Outcomes

  • Plan intruder detection and response procedures for an organisation, taking into consideration the characteristics and limitations of the organisation’s alarm monitoring equipment as well as the applicable regulatory environment
  • Determine and analyse possible causes of intrusion for an organisation, taking into consideration the characteristics and limitations of the organisation’s alarm monitoring equipment and procedures, as well as the applicable regulatory requirements/guidelines
  • Implement and monitor project implementation of alarm monitoring systems in accordance to the regulatory requirements and ensure that site acceptance tests meet operational requirements based on the alarm monitoring equipment used
  • Recommend adjustments in deployments of existing alarm monitoring equipment taking into consideration the characteristics and limitations of the organisation’s alarm monitoring equipment as well as the applicable regulatory environment
  • Review and assess the efficiency of an organisation’s alarm monitoring equipment based on the organisation’s existing alarm monitoring procedures, characteristics and limitations of the existing alarm monitoring equipment as well as the applicable regulatory environment
  • Research and recommend new and suitable alarm monitoring equipment for deployment based on the knowledge of an organisation’s alarm monitoring procedures, the different characteristics and limitations of existing and emerging alarm monitoring equipment as well as the regulatory environment
  • Compile and present improvement plans that are based on the knowledge of the organisation’s alarm monitoring procedures, characteristics and limitations of alarm monitoring equipment and the boundary of the regulatory environment

Mode of Learning

Primary mode of learning for this course is Face-to-Face Classroom session. This will be supplemented with interactive Practical sessions which serves to connect newly-learned knowledge and skills with the realities of the workplace and jobs.
